Refugee Education Enhancement

According to the United Nations, Iraq currently hosts 300,000 refugees, including 270,000 Syrians. Syrian refugee children face many barriers to receiving quality education. Despite the efforts of host governments and the international community to provide refugees with access to public services, demand continues to exceed the capacity of institutions and infrastructure to respond.

In 2017, Whole Heart International began partnering with an education enhancement center located near Erbil. This center was started by a Syrian Kurdish refugee family who saw a need in their community and opened their home to children who were out of school. Since then, Whole Heart International has supported the education of 90+ refugee children through this center.
